App Development

App development from idea to app stores, by people who run their own.

Mobile apps, progressive web apps and full SaaS products, built senior end to end for UK SMEs and founders. We design, build and operate our own products, Manifold and Quarterly, so we know the distance between a demo and a business, and we build yours for the second one.

  • One codebase in every pocket, store submission handled

  • Offline-first where the job demands it, proven in Manifold and Quarterly, our own live products

  • Billing, auth and reporting done properly the first time

Skin in the game.

We run two products of our own, with our own money on the line. Here is what running them has taught us about building yours.

Manifold is our compliance and field-service SaaS for UK Gas Safe engineers, built and run with our own money on the line.

  • Lesson 01

Gas engineers live in vans, not offices, so offline-capable capture was designed for the field from the start rather than bolted on later.

  • Lesson 02

Every recommendation we make to a client about auth, billing, offline sync or reporting is one we have already lived with in production, with our own users.

  • Lesson 03

Building with our own money on the line means every shortcut we are tempted to sell against is one we have felt the cost of ourselves.

App Development, answered

Native app, cross-platform, or PWA. Which do we need?+

It depends on what the app must do, not on fashion. Push notifications, offline work and store presence pull different directions, and a progressive web app is often the honest answer at a fraction of the cost. Quarterly, our own accounting product, is a PWA for exactly that reason. We'll tell you which shape fits and why.

How much does an app cost?+

A progressive web app starts from £6,000 and cross-platform store apps from £10,000. A SaaS MVP, with auth, billing and analytics from day one, starts from £12,000 and rises with what the first version has to prove. Fixed estimate after one scoping conversation, always.

Do you handle the app stores and the boring parts?+

Yes: store submission, billing, auth, analytics and the unglamorous plumbing every real product needs. We've done it for our own products with our own money on the line, which is the strongest incentive to do it properly.

What happens after launch?+

Software that isn't maintained decays. We offer a light retainer for updates and improvements, or a clean handover with documentation if your team is taking it on. Either way you own the code and the accounts.

Shipped by people with skin in the app-store game.

  1. Tell us what the app must do. Expect a reply within one working day.
  2. Scope it on one call. With the engineer who would ship it, so the estimate survives contact with reality.
  3. An estimate that is fixed and written down. No hourly billing that quietly grows.
